1. Public Open Forum
Gil Boro presented plans for a proposed banner featuring his sculpture grounds and studio. The banner, to be used for special events several times a year, would be on a removable 10’ post at the end of the driveway at 80-1 Lyme Street. While a CofA is not required for temporary signs, the HDC requested that he speak with the Land Use Department at Town Hall to determine possible size and illumination.

2. Public Hearing, 85 Lyme Street, Old Lyme Inn new signage – Bethany Pellerin, Chris Kitchings
A CofA application was submitted for new signage at the Old Lyme Inn. The two signs, featuring the Inn’s new logo, will use the existing posts. There were no objections from neighbors.
John Forbis made a motion, seconded by Janet Sturges, to approve the CofA application. All present voted in favor. Motion carried.

3. Lyme Street Benches - Chamber of Commerce, Sheila Wertheimer
It is proposed to install a total of 6 benches near the sidewalk on Lyme Street: 2 in front of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, 2 in front of Town Hall and 2 in front of the Village Shops. The HDC favored the metal bench (Pullman model) in Essex green. The benches are to be donated by local businesses or individuals and will be maintained by the town. The HDC requested that the bench locations be identified on a map as part of the CofA application. A public hearing will be held at the June 4th meeting of the HDC to consider the CofA application.
Action: Contact Sheila Wertheimer and Cathy Frank regarding the documentation requested and the public hearing (Martha Hansen).

4.  Plaque Program update – Martha Hansen
24 Lyme Street: Contact Jim Elliot concerning ordering a plaque (Martha Hansen).
45 Lyme Street: The 1817 map indicates no building between the old Huntley farm (now the location of the OLPGN Library) and a Lord house farther up the street. This is consistent with the information found in the Lyme and Old Lyme land records showing the sale of land only to Catharine Tucker Whipp in January, 1837 (plaque to read: “Catharine & Simon Whipp ca. 1837”). Contact Julie Edmondson (Martha Hansen).
12 Ferry Road: Contact David Kelsey (Martha Hansen).
13 Academy Lane: Ned Perkins is doing the research.
20 Ferry Road: The research continues (Martha Hansen and Pamela Hamilton).
85 Lyme Street: Contact Chris Kitchings concerning a plaque for the Old Lyme Inn (Martha Hansen).
173 Mile Creek: Vladimir Ashworth is interested in a plaque. Start the research (Martha Hansen).
209 Boston Post Road: Help George James with the research (Martha Hansen).
100 Lyme Street: John Forbis has contacted Linnea Ruffo concerning a plaque for the Bee & Thistle Inn.

John Forbis suggested preparing a list of plaqued properties in the Historic District (including additional information about the properties) to be made available for people walking in the HD.
Action: Compile list of plaqued properties and e-mail to John Forbis (Martha Hansen).

5. Business News & Secretary’s Report – Martha Hansen
No news on the Scenic Road application. The yearly dues have been paid to the CT Trust, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Old Lyme Historical Society.

6. Any other new or old business

Respectfully submitted,
